Katia Davila

Welcome! I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Houston in the Political Science Department. Broadly, my research interests lie in gender, local politics, representation, and elections. My dissertation examines how recent political developments—particularly the nationalization of local politics—are reshaping women’s political representation. 

 

As a research assistant, I have worked on projects that have examined the trust in artificial intelligence, the impact of misinformation campaigns on individuals, and international trafficking of human organs. My project work has supported faculty projects through literature synthesis, data collection, and analytical evaluation across multiple complex topics. As a teaching assistant, I support undergraduate learning in a variety of courses covering international relations, security studies, and constitutional law. Specifically, I have led several instructor‑approved lectures and managed core administration of these courses.

 

In addition to my academic work, I provide research support to New American Leaders (NAL), alongside their New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF). I have assisted in the organization’s candidate‑support records by auditing and improving the quality, structure, and reliability of its personal network data. Additionally, I am contributing to the update of its candidate database to ensure it remains accurate, comprehensive, and useful for ongoing research and outreach efforts.
